The online foal auction organised by Irish studfarm Boleybawn Horses was met with great success on Wednesday, September 3. Breeder and auction organiser Ronan Rothwell managed to sell every foal in the collection.

“It was a fantastic edition. Two foals were initially unsold, but both found new owners the following morning. That means we sold the entire collection and I think we can be very proud of that.”

This was not the first online auction organised by Ronan Rothwell, but it was the most successful one to date. “We learn from every auction. This time, we also gave other Irish breeders the opportunity to enter their foals and it is great to see their confidence rewarded with a sale. There were many online registrations for this sixth edition and we also saw more online bidding than ever before.”

Rothwell himself contributed several highlights to the collection, including the full brother and half-sister of his flagship horse, Boleybawn Alvaro (Dominator 2000 Z x Crown Z). The approved stallion owned by Ronan Rothwell and Greg Broderick won silver at the FEI World Breeding Championships for five-year-olds in Lanaken and continues to impress. He is eight-year-old now and performs at 1.45m level.

Full brother Boleybawn Titan sold for €40,000 and will remain in Ireland, while his half-sister Boleybawn Belinda (Button Sitte) was sold for €31,000.

Another eye-catcher was Boleybawn Afrika (Aganix du Seigneur x Emerald), whose striking colour made her stand out from the collection. She is bred from the half-sister of Boleybawn Alvaro and sold for €19,500, going to the same buyer as the auction-topper.

For €22,000, Kilbrackan Toulon (Toulon x Emerald) was sold. He is a grandson of the famous Usha van ’t Roosakker. Pembrook Kilcullen (Cartello VDL x Diamant de Semilly), bred from the half-sister of Olympic showjumping horse Kilkenny, ridden by Cian O’Connor, achieved €16,500.

“These results and the growing interest only motivate us to continue. We’ll come back with a seventh edition next year,” says Rothwell.
